Why recovery takes longer than the course
Most pet parents assume the gut returns to normal once the antibiotic finishes. The biology does not work that way.
After the last dose, the gut starts rebuilding. But rebuilding a diverse, functional microbiome from a depleted state is slow. The remaining bacterial populations are often imbalanced, with opportunistic species filling the space vacated by beneficial ones. This state of imbalance is called dysbiosis, and it persists for weeks even without additional disruption.
